Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colorectal cancer usually starts from growth of benign polyps, that can become cancerous over period of time. In UAE, 30% of all cancers are colorectal in origin. A colorectal cancer screening with a simple test of stool (FIT- Faecal Immunochemical test) can detect cancer early and be treated completely.  This test detects hidden blood (only human blood) in your stool. It is important to undergo screening as, often, hidden blood in your stool can be the only sign of early cancer/ polyps/ inflammatory bowel disease/ diverticulosis/ haemorrhoids. They are several means to screen for colorectal cancer like stool test, flexible sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

Launched by Aster Hospital, Al Qusias, this is a campaign for colorectal screening which targets those over 30 years of age. It includes a complimentary preventive screening through the FIT stool test. This test can identify any hidden blood in your stool and if present, further examination with flexible sigmoidoscopy can help identify its cause and dealt by our team of expert Colorectal Surgeons and Gastroenterologists. Through this campaign, we would like to support the UAE’s national target to decrease the cancer mortality by 18% by 2021.
