GERD is a disease that is caused due to stomach acid’s unusual movement in the tube connecting the mouth and stomach (oesophagus). Generally, people call it acidity. It can irritate the oesophagus lining.

The burning condition or the pain can last up to 2 hours. Generally, the condition gets worse after someone has their meals. Heartburn can occur when the person lies down or bend.  

In many people, the condition gets better when they stand upright or take an antacid to clear the acid from their oesophagus.
