Why is it important for people to consume a protein rich diet?

Protein needs to be a staple in every individual’s diet, irrespective of the age group. Protein generally provides approximately 10-15% of the energy from the overall diet as it is the building block of the body and is essential for the body’s growth and repair. It is important to include nutrients from all food groups in the daily diet and protein is a major component.

A lot of times people tend to disregard the inclusion of healthy proteins in their diet because of the common misconception that protein is required for those who are into physical training and work outs only. Organs, tissues, hair, nails, muscles, hormones etc. in the body are all made up of protein and the protein that the body gets from food is used for the development of all parts of the body. They transport nutrients to each organ in the body. Digestive enzymes in the stomach that digest the food are proteins. It helps maintains our blood pH as well. A diet rich in protein will help maintain the blood sugar levels, build immunity and maintain adequate hemoglobin levels in the blood. Individuals across all age group to eat protein rich food in order to keep their metabolism running. At every age our body need proteins; the amount can be different but one’s daily diet should contain good amounts of good quality protein. Since proteins are not stored in our body, daily intake become extremely crucial.

Protein is found in a variety of foods including milk, fish, eggs, legumes etc. Individuals require to consume a diet rich in protein rather than high in protein, always consume a balanced diet. Make sure you get the required quantities of nutrients from all food groups. Consume healthy proteins, a few examples of protein rich food are dairy, meat, poultry, seafood, soy, eggs pulses and legumes.
